Phil Wheeler has joined professional services firm PwC as a partner in its Deals practice.
The new partner brings more than two decades of experience in business strategy and transactions across the industrials, distribution, healthcare, labour hire and professional services sectors to the firm. He joins the Big Four firm from strategy consultancy L.E.K. Consulting, where he was a partner in its Industrials and Natural Resources group.
Based in Auckland, Wheeler will provide PwC’s clients in New Zealand and the wider region with strategy support (corporate and business unit strategy development) and support mergers and acquisitions, with a focus on deal strategy and commercial due diligence work, as well as portfolio value creation.
Wheeler has extensive experience working with mining, energy, heavy equipment, waste management, oil & gas and construction companies. Prior to his time in consulting, he spent nine years at Anglo American and Rio Tinto.
At PwC, he will also co-lead the Deal Strategy and Value Creation team. “It’s an exciting time to be joining PwC’s Deals team – especially in such a thriving market,” said Wheeler. According to PwC’s latest M&A Update, deal activity in New Zealand is on a record-breaking path, and as a result, M&A advisors (such as PwC) are facing buoyant demand.
